Artificial Intelligence
297mm x 1785mm
1 sheet, folded into a 17-page concertinaThis publication contains two overlaid texts.
One is the second chapter of my dissertation. It discusses how AI can be used to manipulate perceptions, using Republican propaganda from the 2024 US election to explore how AI-generated imagery can construct false narratives. This leads to a critique of the racial and cultural biases embedded in AI systems. The second text is a contradictory version, generated by an AI model, written in the same tone and with matching citations in order to try to manipulate the reader. Alternative imagery was also generated by AI.
The format mimics scrolling through an AI chat. Red or blue acetate is used to filter out one text, allowing the other to be read. The colours, however, aren’t fixed, meaning the reader could unknowingly switch between the informed critique and the AI’s distorted counterargument when going between paragraphs.
This forces the reader to play an active role in seeking the truth within the content they’re consuming in order to avoid being manipulated by AI.
With the development of AI, the publication invites readers to start being more evaluative and critically aware of the media they’re consuming.
