‘Play Personalities’

A ‘Kinesthete’ is someone who engages with the world through movement, physical, and tactile experience. The idea of tactility and stimulation interested me, so I decided to make a pair of gloves that challenge this experience.

One is formed within a plaster cube, which I made using a mould of my hand. The weight and thickness result in the wearer being almost completely deprived of tactile sensation when wearing it. The other is a glove which has pins poking into the inside, resulting in them digging into the wearers hand – complete sensory stimulation.

Sensory experience through touch is something we take for granted but can be incredibly sensitive to. These wearable devices bring an unfamiliar element of discomfort, challenging the wearer to rethink how they interact with their surroundings through physical experience.
